High Performance Homes can include a variety of proven energy-efficient features that contribute to improved home warmth and comfort, lower energy demand and reduce air pollution. The impact of System 2000 as a high efficiency heat and hot water system combined with a “whole house” approach can often lead to home heat and hot water cost savings in the range of 50% or more, especially when applied to older homes.

HPH cuts energy use

For the best performance, ACI selected System 2000 and it's proven high efficiency heat and hot water over higher AFUE rated modulating condensing boilers for this showcase Energy Star home.With today’s concerns about heating energy costs and climate change, no renovation can be deemed adequate if it doesn’t result in a home that consumes minimal energy while remaining durable, comfortable, and healthy for its occupants. The Affordable Comfort Institute demonstration home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania set out to show how all of these goals can be reached on an early 1900’s home. The project team focused primarily on using proven, readily available materials and methods. The result is an Energy Star labeled home that demonstrates how an older structure can be improved without breaking the budget of a typical major renovation. For the best performance, ACI selected System 2000 and its proven high efficiency heat and hot water for this showcase Energy Star home. Air changes were cut by 60% and energy use is modeled to be just 1/3 of the previous consumption. Testing staff has offered that they rarely see numbers of this magnitude in any home.

PATH

Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) and Energy Kinetics collaborated on the first-of-its-kind Mold Safe Model Home (MSMH) that incorporated mold-resistant building practices and building materials. The 3,000-square-foot two-story showcase home was constructed in Chesterfield, New Hampshire, on the shores of Spofford Lake. The MSMH building products were chosen primarily for mold resistance, but energy efficiency and durability were also taken into account. PATH is a partnership dedicated to accelerating the development and use of technologies that radically improve the quality, durability, energy efficiency, environmental performance, and affordability of America’s housing, and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Maine Home Performance

The Maine Home Performance program emphasizes a whole-house approach to reducing energy bills and maintenance costs, and improving comfort and promoting a healthy indoor environment. Homeowners can benefit by having trained professionals analyze their homes and make cost-effective improvements to reduce energy bills. This Maine television program “shows how consumers can save dramatically on their energy bills when they make the right home improvements,” said Beth Nagusky, Director of the Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security.
